Doom Scroll — Help & FAQ
🌍 In public beta (TestFlight) · iPhone · Free, no ads — tips welcome
What it is
Doom Scroll is a feed worth scrolling: live news, what the world is searching for, the planet in real time, museum art with real gallery placards, the plant kingdom, and video from official science channels. Nothing autoplays — video waits for your tap. It's free with no ads, and every source and speed is already unlocked.
How to get started
- Join the public TestFlight beta from the Doom Scroll page on lmkdev.com and install the app on your iPhone.
- Open it and start scrolling — the counter at the top tracks how far you've scrolled.
- Tap Sources (bottom bar) to switch sources on or off and choose things like news outlets, countries or ZIP codes for local news.
- Tap any card to open it in the reader, and long-press any word on a card to see what it means.
- Tap Auto to scroll hands-free, and pick a speed: 1×, 2×, 5× or RAVENOUS.
Questions
Can I change what the scroll counter measures?
Yes. Tap the counter at the top to cycle through units — feet, meters, football fields, blue whales, Empire State Buildings, miles, marathons, bananas and percent of the way to the Moon.
Where do the stories come from?
From official, free sources whose terms allow showing them in an app. Every card shows a credit line, and the reader links back to the original page. News outlet cards show the outlet's short summary, and "Read full article" opens the publisher's own page.
How do I look up a word?
Long-press any word on a card in the feed, or tap a word in the reader. A definition pops up.
What are Trophies?
Small achievements you unlock as you use the app, like looking up words or inviting a friend. Tap Trophies in the bottom bar to see them.
Can I search?
Yes. Tap the magnifying glass at the top, type what you're looking for and tap Go. Tap "clear" to go back to the full feed.
Is Doom Scroll free?
Yes. Doom Scroll: Free, no ads — tips welcome. LMKdev apps have no paywall on the core of the app and never show forced ads (no banners, no pop-up ads). This app has no ads at all. Optional tips help pay for the next app.
What does Doom Scroll do with my data?
Doom Scroll's privacy policy is at https://lmkdev.com/privacy.
Do I need an account?
No. Signing in with an LMKdev ID is optional — it backs up and syncs your progress across devices. The app works fully without it.
How do I suggest a feature or a new app?
Let Me Know — that's what LMK stands for. Email hello@lmkdev.com with your idea for Doom Scroll (or for a whole new app); a person reads every one. Apps by the people, for the people: if your idea ships, you can choose to be credited by name.
Troubleshooting
- A video doesn't start playing. That's on purpose — nothing in Doom Scroll autoplays. Open the card and press play yourself.
- Local News shows nothing. Open Sources, turn on Local News and add at least one US ZIP code.
- The feed runs dry or keeps showing the same kind of thing. Open Sources and switch on more of them — the more you enable, the more there is to scroll. If you're offline, reconnect; a source that can't be reached simply goes quiet.
- You want to keep your sources and picks on a new phone. Sign in with an LMKdev ID from Support → LMKdev ID. It's optional and keeps your feeds if you change phones.
Still stuck? Email support@lmkdev.com and say which app and device — a person reads every one. More on the Doom Scroll support page.
